About this winery

Our tendency towards innovation and modernity has never distanced us from any historic and traditional interpretation of wine. Our patient and meticulous researches have always been directed to the past as much as to the future; on the one hand profoundly linked to the oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making with its heritage of indigenous varieties, and on the other an interest in those international grape vines which are best adapted to these territories, without neglecting the most...

Monica Larner, December 2018 (Vintage 2017)

With 150,000 bottles produced, this is an easy wine to locate. It has become one of Sicily's wine ambassadors abroad. The 2017 Sicilia Menfi Chardonnay boasts the energy and radiance of the new world of Sicilian enology. Toasted spice and apricot are followed by honey, poached pear and sweet spice such as cinnamon and nutmeg (but only just a pinch). I'll give this wine a solid 10-year drinking window. There is a touch of sweet honey on the finish.

Ian D'Agata, September 2017 (Vintage 2016)

Bright golden yellow. Strong notes of vanilla and caramel complicate tropical fruit nuances on the nose. Then rich and ripe, with buttery and oaky flavors of orchard fruit and pineapple. Finishes broad and tactile with building oakiness. After last year’s more discreet Old World-styled mineral Chardonnay, this is a return to Planeta’s more typical Chardonnay style, one that harkens more to the New World. For those who like this style of buttery vanillin and tropical fruit-accented Chardonnay that will be just fine.
